Card
Prof. Dr Zingg is a hip and pelvic surgery specialist and head of the hip and pelvic surgery section. He is also the representative clinic director of orthopedics at University Hospital Balgrist, where highly specialized surgeons are dedicated to caring for trauma and sports injuries and orthopedic problems.
Prof. Dr Zingg's specialization covers the pelvis and hip with open and minimally invasive surgical techniques. Taking regular care of patients of all ages enables the hip specialist to offer individualized comprehensive, and sustainable treatment.
Specialist for Hip and Pelvic Surgery in Zurich
The hip and the pelvic joint is the second-largest joint in the human body. A functional hip joint is essential for pain-free movements in everyday life and sports. At University Hospital Balgrist in Zurich, patients suffering from hip and pelvic pain have access to an experienced team led by hip specialist Prof. Dr Zingg to carry out professional, individualized treatments or surgeries for all age groups. Whenever possible, hip surgeries are performed minimally invasive (arthroscopic) by Prof. Dr Zingg. Endoscopic access to the hip and pelvic joint reduces the risk of infection and accelerates the healing process.
Joint-Preserving Hip Surgery by an Experienced Pelvic and Hip Surgeon
Joint-preserving hip surgery is becoming increasingly important in modern hip surgery. Hip surgery offers an alternative to an artificial hip joint, especially to younger patients with hip deformities, e.g., impingement or hip dysplasia. In addition to hip arthroscopy, periacetabular pelvic osteotomy, surgical hip dislocation, and various corrective osteotomies of the femur are used. Prof. Dr Zingg determines which therapeutic procedure is the most suitable together with his patients after a detailed diagnostic examination.
Endoprosthetics of the Hip Joint and Hip Prosthesis Replacement
Suppose the damage to the hip joint or femoral head has progressed to the extent that a hip joint-preserving therapy can no longer improve the patient. In that case, the implantation of an artificial hip joint offers the best chance of walking again without pain. Even sports are possible with a hip endoprosthesis. Nowadays, this procedure can also be performed in a minimally invasive way. Prof. Dr Zingg examines the patient's situation individually and then selects the type of prosthesis and surgical access to achieve the best possible surgical result.
A hip prosthesis replacement becomes necessary in some cases due to loosening or infection. Only experienced hip surgery specialists should only carry out this challenging surgery. Prof. Dr Zingg performs hip stem and acetabular replacement surgery with the utmost care. Especially in complicated pelvic discontinuities, when the acetabulum is entirely loose, and there is an interruption in the pelvic ring, the combined experience of pelvic surgery and prosthetic surgery comes into play. Prof. Dr Zingg can also be contacted for a second or expert opinion.
