FINDING THE BEST TREATMENT

Information About the Field of Hair Surgery

What Does Hair Surgery Provide?

Hair loss is a significant burden for many affected people. Hair surgery can provide relief for certain forms of hair loss. Hair transplantation is an accepted and effective method of hair loss treatment. It is useful if the hair loss is advanced and there are already large bald areas and sufficient donor hair. The result depends on the extent of the bald areas and the ratio between the donor area and the bald area. If extensive areas are bald, the result can look patchy, and a second surgery will possibly become necessary.

Hair Analysis

A detailed consultation should always take place before a hair surgical treatment. In addition to the clinical examination, the blood test, and the patient's detailed questioning about the course of the disease and possible triggers, the hair analysis is a component of the diagnosis.

Hair analysis can also help to verify the effectiveness of treatment. The doctor evaluates previously epilated hair under a microscope in a trichogram. Using the hair roots, he can determine how many hairs are in the growth phase (anagen phase) and how many hairs are in the resting phase (telogen phase). The ratio of anagen hairs to telogen hairs gives the doctor an indication of the hair loss type. The doctor measures the diameter of the hair with the TrichoScan. Trichogram and TrichScan can be used to check, for example, whether Finastarid therapy is effective. If this is the case, more hair is found in the growth phase and the hair's diameter increases.

Methods of Hair Surgery

In hair surgery, a distinction is made between two methods, strip removal (FUI, FUT, Strip) and single hair group removal (FUE).

In strip removal, the surgeon shaves the removal area at the back of the head briefly. He cuts out a 1 to 1.5cm wide and 10 to 35cm long skin strip with hair roots; this method allows obtaining a large number of hair root groups.

In single hair group removal, a larger area is shaved, usually at the back of the head, where the surgeon removes single hair groups with hollow needles or hollow drills.

The more hair roots per square centimeter are transplanted, the denser the hair looks by using either one of the two methods. At a density of more than 25 hair root groups per square centimeter, the optical results are excellent; they are still good at 10 to 25.

Where Can I Find an Experienced Hair Clinic in Germany?

Every patient who needs hair transplantation wants the best medical care. Therefore, the patient is wondering where to find the best hair clinic in Germany. As this question cannot be answered objectively, and a reliable doctor would never claim to be the best one, we can only rely on the doctor’s experience. The more hair transplants have been carried out; the more experienced the doctor becomes in his specialty. Therefore, specialists in hair surgery are specialists with many years of experience.
